The image on the right is that of a replica of Eiffel Tower attached to a hotel named "Paris Paris" in Las Vegas. Las Vegas is also known as the "Neon City" due to the near vulgar bright and colourful lighting all over. It all looked so surreal with all the hotels having large lobbies with their arrays of gambling gadgets. It reminded me of the old ABBA song, "Money, money money, it is so funny in the rich mans world"
We drove through the famous six mile road known as the "Strip" in Las Vegas and saw the sights by night and the day. We saw stretch limousines, low slung sleek and powerful sports convertibles, massive motorcycles, Elvis Presley look alike and many other sites.
The image on the left is that of camels resting outside a desert camp in the Dubai desert. The lighting was dramatic and the view fantastic. We had our Engineering College Alumni 30th Year meet in Dubai. A desert Safari was part of the programme.
The photo on the right is the land mark building in Dubai. The architecture is wonderful. I can never forget the advertisement which showed Tiger Woods teeing off from the helipad atop the building. The building was too expensive for private visits, hence we viewed it from outside only. Adjacent to the hotel there is a small sand strip, more of an apology to a beach, with no tree covered fringes, no rocks, no frills.
Now comes a picture which I recently took during a visit to my native place. This was taken in the macro mode and came out quite well.
The next image was taken on the hangar deck of USN Nimitz, during her visit to Chennai on 04 July 2008. The ship was dressed overall on their Independence day. I was thrilled to visit and even more so when they allowed photography on board. There were scores of visitors on board the ship comprising women, children, men and women from Indian Armed Forces in uniform.
